ABOUT

My name is Erin Toland. I am a photographer and writer, telling human stories through images and words.

I was born and raised in New York City in the 1980s and spent most of my adult life here. I’ve been a photographer for decades, but the street photography shared here, taken between 2007 and 2019, is my favorite chapter.

These images capture a New York where people still looked up—when there was room for thought, stillness, and quiet observation. This is the story of that city, told through photographs.

I’m creating this site as a time capsule, so that maybe, in a future shaped entirely by AI, someone might stumble upon these remnants of human life.

That version of the world is gone, never to return.
