I really think it’s important to feel comfortable being alone, I accomplish so much when I’m by myself.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hermit, I absolutely love the time I spend with my friends and family. It’s just that I think there’s something romantic about wandering the streets alone, me and my thoughts, confronted with my emotions, nothing to distract me. I can take in more of my surroundings when I’m on my own. I am more aware.
I understand that for some people it’s a lot harder to be alone than for others, but I think you can practice, I think you can get better. You just need to trust that you have the capability to fulfill yourself without the help of someone else. Restlessness with being alone can lead to the feeling of loneliness, which isn’t good. No one wants to feel lonely. If we can grasp that we’re all connected to everything in the universe, we’re all made up of the same crap, then we can rest a little easier when we’re alone.
It’s so attractive to me when someone is comfortable being alone, when I see someone eating dinner, or going to the movies, or traveling alone. I don’t feel bad for them because they’re by themselves, I think it shows a personal passion for life that goes beyond only experiencing things because you have someone with you.
I’m not suggesting we all ditch our friends to hang out alone. I’m saying that cultivating a relationship with yourself, is just as important as cultivating a relationship with someone else.

Isebrand added these pithy words on Apr 02 09 at 10:30 amVery rich “slice(s) of life”/”moment(s) in time” images. I wish I could take such photos from around this town! I suspect that historians, photographers, and lovers of photography in the future will also be grateful for your efforts. I hope you’ve published a collection as a book, or are considering doing so.
Shannon added these pithy words on Apr 02 09 at 11:00 amI have just stumbled on your blog – I feel an affinity for your photos and accompanying comments. I too live in New York and love to wander the streets alone taking photos – there is something magical about being alone, especially in this city, (though I feel like Im not alone when I have my camera!).. I have to move away soon and am really sad about it – but now I will be able to visit your blog and not feel so far away…Thank You!!

I have learn many new ways of making the best out of what we have and acknowledging all the beauty around us everyday. I have learned Reiki and by learning to meditate I am so grateful for being able to accept myself for who I am. I notice and enjoy everything and everyone around me in a different way. I look forward to see more of your photography.
