Last Sunday was a wonderful respite from the bitter cold that has been encompassing the island of Manhattan this winter. It was around 45 degrees and the sun was beaming, it was a gorgeous day. I left my sleeping bag of a jacket at home, and layered up for my day of shooting, I felt free.
Everyone was out enjoying the day, the energy of the city was as warm as the sun. I found myself walking south to Chinatown through my former hood Tribeca and taking a peek at my old building. What a shithole it was, and what a great feeling to know I never have to walk up the five flights of stairs that took me to that shithole again.
I walked around Chinatown, and through to the Lower East Side, watching people play in parks and sit on benches. Everyone with their necks and shoulders free from the pinch of winter. The day made me thankful for the return of spring.
These are the precious days that get us through a long hard winter, and thank goodness for them, because that stupid groundhog just saw his damn shadow. Six more weeks of winter.
